My request is that the two buses in the mornings and afternoons which were on a pilot test be kept on after the trial period. The service has turned out to be beneficial for both students/passengers and the bus company. There are many passengers who use this bus route, not just students and I think the way in which this service is now with the two buses has created a much better atmosphere in both buses and everyone is comfortable and have seats. There is no drama and should really be kept on. Thanks for the trial, it has helped me immensely these past few weeks with the travel to and from Uni I just hope it continues on as it is much needed.
Just sent the following to the Minister for Transport:
Dear Ms Berejiklian,
I note that you have taken an interest in improving public transport, with a particular interest in increasing services. I hope that you will take an interest in the bus service myself and many other people who travel between Campbelltown and Wollongong (particularly the University of Wollongong) rely upon: Busways route 887. This bus, in particular the morning service leaving Campbelltown at 7.04 am and the evening service leaving Wollongong at 5.30pm has suffered from terrible overcrowding in the past, and is currently undergoing a trial of running two buses at a time for these two particular daily services, which has in my assessment been very successful. Both buses seem to be filling most seats. Unfortunately, this trial is due to be discontinued on Thursday of this week and the unpleasant and unsafe situation of overcrowding will resume. It is a particular concern if many passengers are forced to stand on this bus route as the travel time is 70 minutes, and the bus travels at 100km/h along Appin road before going down Bulli Pass. Standing up for the duration of this trip is a very unpleasant experience, especially as part of a regular commute, and is a safety issue. Passengers are liable to fall over in a ‘domino effect’ when the bus makes a sudden stop.
Route 887 is popular for students and staff travelling to and from the University of Wollongong, and its popularity has increased markedly in recent years as the University has grown. This is the only public transport between Campbelltown and Wollongong – by train one would need to travel via Wolli Creek, and for me this would result in a 3-4 hour commute. My hope is that a two-bus service can be continued with the support of the NSW Government. I would also like to see at least one of these buses travel via Mount Ousley, which I believe is both safer and faster.
Best regards

The 887′s ninety minute trip through Appin and along Bulli Pass is now a ... Continue reading »
